Located in the state of Indiana, the city of Greencastle lies in Putnam County. It is part of the Greencastle Township and serves as the County Seat of Putnam County. Home to a population of 10,326 people, the city of Greencastle is positioned on a total area of 5.24 square miles of which 0.05 square miles is water. Ephraim Dukes founded the city in 1821 and named it after his hometown of Greencastle in Pennsylvania. Greencastle as we know it today used to be a village that operated under the authority of commissioners of the Putnam County. This was until 1849 when it officially became a town and was later declared to be a city after an election in 1861.

The area of Greencastle is surrounded by lands used for farming while the city also takes pride in its industries and commercial businesses. The splendid nature of the city leaves visitors awestruck its remarkable recreational facilities to make Greencastle a great place to live in. Greencastle is also the home city to amazing educational institutions such as DePauw University and the Ivy Tech Community College.
